How the Jordan/Angela/Brian triangle would have played out on MSCL according to Claire Danes and Winnie Holzman
| Claire Danes: | I mean I think I probably would have explored the romance with Brian at some point. |
| Winnie Holzman: | But what I was planning was, in my mind, the thing I sort of thought, maybe, was that you would be all involved with Jordan. Deeply involved, like in that way, like a trainwreck. Like a riptide. Where you can't--you don't know how to get out. And you're going to Brian on the sly for advice. In your mind "for advice," but it's because you're actually returning that affection suddenly for the first time. But you're safely embroiled in this relationship with Jordan Catalano, so there's no real danger of that intimacy. Because after all, the intimacy was what on some level was frightening. You two knew each other so well and you did have a bond and it was very intimate. |
| Claire: | Yes, but too confronting. |
| Winnie: | Too confronting. And you didn't have that fantasy that you had with Jordan Catalano. |
| Claire: | Right and it was only fantasy. Gosh and you're so funny. Your writing is so funny. I love that episode when she listens to the song that he wrote, "Red," and she assumes, duh, that he's writing it for her. And it's his car. |
| Winnie: | A lot of people thought that was silly. |
| Claire: | Well, I don't know, I really think that's great! |
| Winnie: | I mean on the set then, I remember I was getting a little bit of feedback, maybe from some of the writers or something that, "Really? She would really think that?" I was like, "Yeah!" |
| Claire: | Yes, totally, absolutely, of course! |
| Winnie: | She goes there! She's living such a fantasy. She's projecting all of it. |
| Claire: | Which is very easily done it turns out. |
Have you ever just like completely given up on someone and then something happens and you go, “Oh my God, there’s so much more to this person than I ever dreamed.”
